Refuel in Vietnam

In Vietnam, so is the gasoline super cheap compared to Sweden. When we left home, I think the price in Sweden stood at about 13.50 SEK / liter. But in Ho Chi Minh City cost a liter of half as much! The thought of five liters is sufficient so far during our two weeks we had to refuel twice.

It is never difficult to find petrol stations, they are several on every street. Every gas station has at least one employee per pump and you get served with getting gasoline poured, which of course is easy, but we wondered why one course course ite can do it yourself.

Our American friend Seth said that in the U.S., there are two states which have the same system, the rest of the states allows one to think for yourself. But that would mean that for many will be without a job if you were suddenly to let people manage their own refueling.

Here it is petrol stations visited by all motorcycle riders, but we often see employees just standing at the pumps in anticipation of the next customer. The labor is cheap in Vietnam and the competition is tough so it is important to offer customers high quality service in everything from gas stations to restaurants and shops.

Cool drink on the way home

Sunday 3 July

On the bus that would take us home from Vung Tau to Ho Chi Minh City again we bought sugar cane juice with lots of ice cubes.

Super Good and fresh! Especially as we are constantly struggling with 37-38 degree heat. We really need a cool drink like this!

Quyen and I

The juice squeezed on the spot, so it really is freshly prepared. You get it in a small bag of ice and a suggrör. =)

Video: On the way back on a motorbike

In Ho Chi Minh City we travel by motorbike almost everywhere, it's the easiest way to get around. I really wouldn't like to drive a car here, but it would be convenient when it rains!

I made a little video I shot while we went motor biking along the bay in Vung Tau. The traffic is very quiet compared to Ho Chi Minh City.

Cloudy Lake in Vũng Tàu

Sunday 3 July

This morning we slept long according to Quyen and Thanh. We got up at 09.00. Usually, they are at work at 06.00.

The breakfast consisted of noodle soup

We rented motorbikes and drove along the peninsula.
We tried to book a ferry ride home instead of the bus, but tickets were sold out. There were, however, the opportunity to buy a ticket for the same boat if you wanted to add on 50% on the price because there was some weird dude next to the booth, and probably he had bought lots of tickets, which he then sold the expensive. Sigh!
None of us was particularly keen to support this and the tickets cost 200.000 dong at the box office (≈ 63 kr) and the shady guy wanted 300.000 dong (≈ 95 kr). In comparison with the bus trip that cost 80.000dong (≈ 25 ≈.SEK
We're going to Vung Tau Beach this weekend again (15-17 July) so if we are quick, maybe we can buy ferry tickets then instead.

We decided to visit Cloudy Lake Eco-Tourism Park and take the cable car up to the park which is situated on a hill overlooking the entire bay of Vung Tau. The tickets to get up through the cable car cost 200.000 dong(≈ 63 SEK).

The view from the top, wonderfully beautiful, but scorching hot!

V foundemail a statue of Ho Chi Minh

Thanh Quyen and admire the view

V found cowboy hats, we got a little excited when we realized that you could get to ride western horses but we regretted when we were told that one is led around by a rope with a walking person next to them.

Instead, we chose to rent a boat opposite. There was a minimal lake at the top “Cloudy Lake” and 20.000 dong(≈ 6,50 SEK) had to step around the little lake. I and V almost chose to skip this activity also because the idea of putting on the mandatory life jacket was repulsive. We gave it a try, however, on the pretext that we actually were able to return to the beach if we were sweating to death.

We secretly looking at the other tail =)

We were also spied on ;)

Bilder fran Quyens Vung Tau

Our camera ran out of battery on the first night in Vung Tau, so I got some pictures from Quyen. Below you can see pictures from the beach, from our coffee and our dinner at the roadside as I wrote about here.

The top of the picture is the snails and then two kinds of clams. We bought the mussels to the right.

Fish and scary squids. We did not order this!

Tandem Cycling along the boardwalk

Saturday 2 July 2011

You could not believe our day at the beach was over? :P

We boardwalk we rented tandem bikes, it was my first time to ride on such a, but V is good at everything in my, So with him I feel safe in most things we do. :)

We did not go so far before Quyen and Thanh bike broke down. The chain jumped out and could not be put back. So it was to roll back and get a new. :)

It is difficult to take a picture in the dark when the objects are not completely still and you neglected to take a stand. =) Here is at least a blurry picture of V of his shirt and new shorts.

On the boardwalk found Thanh his name written in the sand

In my nice new shirt

We found a statue with a pair of gigantic breasts at the beach promenade and of course could not resist taking a picture. Thanh looks as if he were about to start sucking on the nipple at any time, haha!

After a bit of walking at the beach promenade, we found a place along the roadside where we bought dinner 2 which consisted of mussels and a sandwich to V. We took a break at a coffee shop before we thought the day was probably the final. Then it was just to ride back to the pillow at the hotel.

Shopping i Vung Tau

When we went to the beach so I understood and V is not true that we would stay overnight, we thought it was a journey for the day. Therefore, we would not with us any change of clothes. So when Quyen told us that we would go home and shower and change for the evening so we were like two question marks. :D

We took a taxi to Blue Exchange where we shop for clothes, using the same day. As I bathed in my only clothes and was soaking wet, I walked around the store wearing only my wet linen and a towel around his waist.

Will not remember exactly what each garment costing, This was according to Quyen one of the expensive shops that she did not act in the prices were so high. The garments cost between 140.000 and 225.000 dong which is equivalent to between 44 and 70Kr. The red shirt was the most expensive and probably cost 70Kr.

V also bought shorts and shirt. will post a picture of how nice he was later.

Dinner on the beach…

Saturday 2 July 2011

I, Thanh Quyen and love seafood. Unfortunately, like V, they are a bit scary! :S So, for dinner, or afternoon snack, it was probably a bit more… so we ordered crab was cooked directly on the beach. Talk about fresh! :)

V do not think this is a hit! :P

Lucky! Good food, Darling and great friends!

Darkness falls quickly and before we had time to blink the beach was deserted and the sun had gone down. We stayed a while to just enjoy the food and tranquility. A few splashed on in the pitch black darkness.

A single glassgubbe bikes on the beach.

Asia - Stage 10: Vung Tau Beach Public

Saturday 2 July 2011

After having quickly checked into the hotel we decided that we wanted to go to the beach at one time.

We stopped on the road to eat some noodle soup before it was time for swimming.

Before the sea turned out there was a promenade with market stalls along the promenade.

Arriving at the beach, the sand was perfectly soft and completely sick long!

In place of the sun loungers… even if it was not on a sunny late afternoon.

There was a lot of people on the beach and the water, it may look sparse, but the beach is lååååång!

The marketing of the beach, it is similar-Vung Tau where the sky meets the sea. And I really think that's right. One can hardly see where the sky ends and sea begins. I and V-footed in the race. When we got down to the beach it was already late afternoon so the sun had begun to decline.

A happy fish swimming in the sea :)

Most Vietnamese who swam at the beach, both the t-shirt and shorts when they were bathed. Many had bathing suits under clothing and so they just walked out in the middle of the water. This is mostly because they feel uncomfortable having to prove themselves so exposed and also they want to rather not be either brown. I had tank top and jean shorts that day thought it was a bad idea to swim with the shorts but kept her shift on. One must take the practice where you will. :)

A long blekfis and I.

I am a happy man who enjoys! :)

This is the Vietnamese “glass car” that go along with the shore and sell ice cream. It was the first time we heard the melody of the ice cream bikes, but now we hear it everywhere. If you want to hear how it sounds so watch the youtube video here.

Asia – Stage 9: Bussresa till Vung Tau

2 July 2011

Quyen and Thanh wanted to take us to the beach our first weekend. So we packed ourselves into a local bus that took us on to the main bus terminus.

I and V are waiting for the bus

The bus was big as an eight-seater (Minivan), maybe even less. They stopped it by standing at the bus stop and wave your arm. When the bus finally stops you have to hurry up before it goes further. Sometimes it doesnt even stop it just slows down.

Newly onboard and according to us it was pretty full on the bus, we sat 7 or 8 divided into two oblong tables. The trip cost 4000 Dong (≈ 1.20 kr) and paid to the driver through a small gap between the driver- and passenger seat. If you sit far away from the door may be leaving money on to the neighbor that sends to the driver. The driver both run in the crazy traffic, give out tickets and change money (everything on the fly of course).

Quyen Thanh och

It was pretty much narrower when a merchant climbed aboard the bus with all their merchandise. We did not really want anything special, but after some nagging from the woman Quyen thought that we could buy one souvenir each. It was a keychange that was showing Vietnam currency. Key rings cost more than bus fare unit 5000 Dong (≈ 1.50 kr).

Here I started to think it should be fully on the bus especially since a person standing, holding itself in the roof and stood on the step outside. But no, can you imagine that there are extra plastic pallets in the pews who pulled up in the middle if necessary. And it was really really crowded! Add 38 degree heat on the! Sweaty!

Quyen thought interest we would take a regular bus (without air conditioning) till Vung Tau, so we bought tickets for an air-conditioned bus instead. The bus consisted of four rows of three seats in each row. Just when we sat down, told the driver that we would put ourselves in another similar bus was almost full, and just to leave the bus terminal. I and V had to sit in front of busschauförren in a double seat.

The bus trip took about 2.5 h and cost 80.000 Dong(≈ 24kr).

Hope you find it fun to follow our journey. Please comment if there is something special you want to know.
